"Justice Is..." AND WINNING ART
Greater Hartford Legal Aid and the Greater Hartford Legal Aid Foundation invite 7th and 8th grade students throughout their service territory to enter the annual art contest, "Justice Is..." Prizes, including cash awards for both the winning young artists and their schools or groups are presented in Law Day ceremonies, usually at the State Capitol on May 1.
The Honorable Robert K. Killian, Jr., who presides over Hartford Probate Court, has been among the distinguished panel of community leaders and artists who have judged the entries. He observes, "Most apparent to me as I reviewed the artistic efforts of these young people was their expectation that justice would be sensitive, caring and accommodating to the needs of people. As I sit in my courtroom, I am constantly reminded of their expectations of me and the system which I am honored to serve. I am proud of these young people."
Greater Hartford Legal Aid and the Legal Aid Foundation are also very proud of the young people who take the time and initiative to participate in this program. We thank the teachers and group leaders who encourage their students and members and who provide time for discussion of the issue of justice. We also thank Janow Picture Framing for mounting the art free of charge.
The 18 winning entries become a touring exhibit. To arrange to show it in your workplace, library, school, church, or community center, or at your annual meeting or other event, contact Susan Stoppelman at 860-541-5000.
