Family Problems, DCF, and the Law: A Guide for Parents explains what happens when DCF and Juvenile Court get involved with a family, and focuses on how parents can advocate for their children and their families. It goes beyond legal explanations to provide parents and their advocates with basic information about what harms children and what resources are available to help. Through a series of checklists, the Guide encourages parents to identify family problems and take some action to begin to address them. Child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, substance abuse, and depression are among the issues the Guide discusses. Resources, concrete suggestions, and practical strategies run throughout.
